Gaming in the Waning(?) Days of the Pandemic

So, I recall an article that came across my feed in the spring with a title of “It Just Might Be a Wonderful Summer,” about how the widely-available vaccine and the lower transmission rates of outdoor activities would help Summer 2021 feel almost like Summer 2019. Well, my gaming life is a bit of living … Read more

Dreamation 2020

Another February, another Dreamation! I did some great gaming this weekend. On Thursday, Richard and I hacked Swords Without Master into a two-player game of improvisational sword and sorcery adventure. We were opposed by the nefarious Guild of Provisioners to steal a Horn of Plenty, and pursued by an immense, surreal maw rising from beneath. … Read more

Metatopia 2019

Is this what game conventions are like in Blade Runner? Metatopia was better than a floating sushi bar. I playtested Grognards & Gorgons, a GUMSHOE game of Napoleonic investigators facing down monsters from Greek mythology. It’s does some interesting things with troops, where we are commanding a few dozen soldiers, distributing them like resources, but … Read more

Dreamation 2019 – 15th annual IGX

Had a good first full day at Dreamation. Started the day offering With Great Power for two players who had signed up for +Tony Lower-Basch ‘s Capes game. We had fun with an altruistic superhero whose parents wanted her to make some money of her powers, and a hero who was plagued by demons that caused calamity wherever he went.

The First IGX at Dreamation

I found this gem in the Wayback Machine, our first Indie Games Explosion at Dreamation 2005. https://web.archive.org/web/20041212115812/http://incarnadine.indie-rpgs.com:80/ige.html And the schedule grid, handmade by me in CorelDRAW: We offered 26 game sessions and 3 seminars. This year, for our 15th annual IGX, we’ll be offering well over 80 sessions, including some of those same games that … Read more

Metatopia 2017

Metatopia was great! The entire Double Exposure staff did a great job handling a record number of events and attendees. Personally, I really enjoyed not having to playtest any games all weekend. Instead, I got to be a tortured anime super soldier in Russell Collins’s Project Wingspan; a well-dressed angel hunter in Miguel Espinoza’s Nahuales; … Read more

DEXCON 19 — June 29-July 3, 2016

DEXCCON 2016 Thursday: I had to work. But was able to drop Kat off on Wednesday night. On Thursday, she was a whirlwind of activity and set up a mini-Maelstrom within DEXCON. GMs who had open slots would post the games that they were willing to run at those times. Players interested would show up … Read more
