Another February, another Dreamation! I did some great gaming this weekend.
- On Thursday, Richard and I hacked Swords Without Master into a two-player game of improvisational sword and sorcery adventure. We were opposed by the nefarious Guild of Provisioners to steal a Horn of Plenty, and pursued by an immense, surreal maw rising from beneath.
- On Friday, I ran With Great Power. It was exactly the sort of grab-bag superheroic unpredictability I like to see. Our heroes were an ex-assassin robot from the future, a pulp cave woman from the past with her herd of dinosaurs in central park, an archaeologist battling possession by an ancient amulet, an investigative reporter with shadow-powers, and the rebellious son of an alien blood-god who was sticking it to his father by embracing peace and love. They faced an alien trying to make the human race better against their will.
- Friday afternoon I played For the Queen where actually all of us decided to defend the Queen during the final attack.
- Saturday’s session of With Great Power saw two half-sisters whose mother was from a long line of fairy godmothers. One of the sisters was the favorite, while the other found her words constantly twisted to their worst possible meaning.
- Saturday afternoon marked an accomplishment: We played Fall of Magic and reached the end of the scroll! We wove a sad and sweet tale of my farm boy leaving his love behind, Jeff’s golem marveling at the wonder of life before the magic animating him went out, Sean’s fox becoming and lady and bidding farewell to the mists, and Kat’s fugitive Justice renouncing his mission of vengeance to take the name Peace and swear to protect his estranged half-sister Fawn on her path to become the storm queen. A really great game.
- Saturday night, Brennan, Christo, and I played more Swords Without Master. This session was stuffed with high-adventure phantasmagoria, like slavering beasts whose blood freezes like ice and an elephant transformed into a long-forgotten brother.
I spent this morning chatting with so many wonderful people. A good con experience, as always.
